Report A Claim

Theft

If you experience a theft…

Having a supportive claims representative assist you in recouping your losses will help ease the stress of your experience. However, there are a number of things you must do to set the process in motion:
  • Call the police immediately to report your situation.
  • If credit or bank cards are stolen, notify the issuers of the cards as soon as possible. In addition to deactivating the cards, these companies often provide coverage for any amounts charged against them in a theft situation.
  • If locks or windows are broken, or other damage is incurred due to a break-in, do not hesitate to repair or replace them immediately. Most homeowners policies provide coverage for these expenses without prior approval, so long as you have receipts for services performed or materials purchased.
  • Prepare a list of everything that was stolen. This usually is the hardest part of filing a theft claim and can be greatly eased if you have maintained, on an ongoing basis prior to the theft, a list or videotape which shows all your belongings.
